ZTE, ASTRI and Innofidei Completed Multi-UE Field Test with TD-LTE Data Cards

As the World Expo 2010 being staged in Shanghai, ZTE, ASTRI and Innofidei completed TD-LTE multi-UE outdoor field Interoperability test (IOT), simultaneously in Hong Kong and Shanghai, with data cards jointly developed by ASTRI and Innofidei. During the tests multiple TD-LTE USB data cards were successfully connected to ZTE’s TD-LTE eNode B using 20 MHz bandwidth at the 2.3GHz frequency band. Simultaneous video streaming and FTP downloading applications were used during the test. This marks another significant milestone the tripartite cooperation has achieved after the successful joint demonstration of the TD-LTE Data Card prototype during the ITU World Telecom held in Geneva last October.

Dr. Zhang Xianming, Senior Vice President of ZTE, said, "This is the industry's first attempt to complete outdoor IOT with multiple data cards. Its success will accelerate the deployment of TD-LTE by the industry. ZTE has taken a solid step forward towards the full commercialization of the TD-LTE technology."

"We are delighted to see that ASTRI's long term cooperation with Innofidei and ZTE has made another important breakthrough," said Dr. Cheung Nim-kwan, CEO of ASTRI. "We will continue to partner with industry's leading companies to develop LTE TDD and FDD core technologies, to serve the high-tech industries in Hong Kong and Greater China and to promote the development of LTE in the global market.

"TD-LTE is a major technology initiative selected by Innofidei following our success in CMMB baseband chip business," said Dr. Tom Zhang, CEO of Innofidei. "Our collaboration with ASTRI in the past two years has resulted in a number of important achievements. The TD-LTE data card jointly developed by us has been selected by China Mobile for deployment at the Shanghai Expo."

ZTE, with strong innovation and product development capabilities, has been the front runner in TD-SCDMA industry. With its profound experience and continual investment in TD-SCDMA, ZTE has sustained its leadership position in TD-LTE. ZTE is among the first to pass TD-LTE indoor basic set testing, outdoor field testing and the full set testing jointly put forward by Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) of China and China Mobile with excellent testing results. ZTE is also actively involved in the Shanghai World Expo TD-LTE trial network. It has equipped the News Centre with TD-LTE network to provide reporters from all over the world user experience of high-speed wireless data transmission. ZTE, together with other global operators have so far deployed five commercial LTE networks and 40+ trial networks across Europe, North America, Asia Pacific and the Middle-East.

ASTRI was founded by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region to conduct applied R&D for industry transfers. Since its inception, ASTRI has been delivering world-class technologies and customer-focused R&D which cater to the needs of the industry. ASTRI's R&D efforts traverse five technological areas: Communications Technologies, IC Design, Enterprise & Consumer Electronics, Material & Packaging Technologies and Biomedical Electronics. Through close collaboration with industry and universities in China and around the world, ASTRI has produced many fruitful results.

As a supplier of CMMB baseband chips, Innofidei is keen to promote and develop the TD-LTE industry. In 2007, Innofidei initiated the TD-LTE project and started the partnership with ASTRI to develop TD-LTE terminal baseband chip. In 2009, Innofidei collaborated with ASTRI, China Mobile and TD Alliance to demonstrate high-definition video applications using TD-LTE technology at the Mobile World Congress (MWC). In 2010, Innofidei was chosen by China Mobile to supply TD-LTE baseband chipsets for data card and CPE terminals in support of the Shanghai World Expo TD-LTE trial deployment. In April the same year, Innofidei and ASTRI jointly released the world's first 20 MHz TD-LTE terminal baseband chip.
