NGMN and GSMA talk ‘Technology Evolution – Beyond 3G’

The Future for Next Generation Mobile Networks

London (United Kingdom) / Frankfurt (Germany), February 4th, 2009 – The Next Generation Mobile Network (NGMN) Alliance (www.ngmn.org) unveiled the topic for its seminar being held at this year’s Mobile World Congress. Developed together with the GSMA, leading mobile industry executives will be discussing ‘Technology Evolution’ of next generation networks and how they will move from standards focus to the delivery of real services over the next few years.

 

The NGMN Alliance has had a successful year with some key deliverables and key milestones being reached. With the documentations on Self Organising Networks, Backhaul and ITDD (Initial Terminal Device Definition) now available from www.ngmn.org the Alliance has turned its attention to focus on operational efficiency, device availability and trials in the area of emerging next generation networks.

 

Next generation mobile networks are gaining momentum and operators are already moving their business propositions towards them. During the seminar, high level industry speakers will be discussing all aspects of next generation networks and how these will offer a connectivity boost for a new generation of consumer devices specifically tailored to suit next generation mobile services and applications.

 

Starting at 09.00 am, Thursday 19th February at the Fira de Barcelona, and spread over the full day, the conference stream will cover key areas of next generation mobile networks.

 

In the morning session “Drivers & success factors for the deployment of next generation mobile networks” keynotes and panels will focus on:

  • Deployment strategies
  • Interoperability & roaming
  • Trials & testing

 

Followed in the afternoon session “Key technical and business aspects of network evolution” which zooms in on specific technology and business challenges such as:

  • Network operations & rollout realities
  • Terminals – development and timescales
  • Backhaul solutions

 

Keynote speakers in the morning will be:

  • Vivek Badrinath
    EVP IT Networks & Product Support, FT/Orange and Chairman of the NGMN Board
  • Marc Rouanne
    Head of Radio Networks, Nokia Siemens Networks
  • Donglin Shen
    VP Wireless Technology, ZTE Corporation

 

Representatives from 3GPP, Alcatel-Lucent, China Mobile, Cisco, Ericsson, Huawei, LG, LSTI, mimoOn, NEC, Nortel, NTT DOCOMO, Qualcomm, Rohde & Schwarz, T-Mobile, Telefonica, Telia Sonera, Tellabs, Telus, Vodafone and ZTE Corporation will also address key topics in their speeches.   “Early 2010 will see the first next generation network deployments, devices and services and in recognition of this we have joined with the GSMA to develop an in-depth, day long seminar,” said Dr. Peter Meissner, Operating Officer of the NGMN Alliance.  “We are delighted to have some of the leading technology executives from the largest corporations across the globe speaking at the seminar.  We hope that those involved and attending enjoy the speaker sessions and that the panel on deployment strategies and backhaul challenges will spark further discussion points across the industry.”
