NGMN Alliance appoints New Board Members for 2008 - 2010

Frankfurt, October 16th, 2008 – The Annual General Meeting of the NGMN Alliance appointed new Board Members on October 15th, 2008. The new Board Members elected for the period from 2008 to 2010 are:

 

  • Vivek Badrinath
    Executive Vice President for IT, Networks & Product Support, France Telecom SA
  • Dr. Jae W. Byun
    CTO, Head of Institute of Network Technology, MNO Business, SK Telecom Co. Ltd. 
  • Joachim Horn
    Chief Technology Officer, T-Mobile International AG
  • Mitsunobu Komori
    Executive Vice President, Chief Technical Officer, Member of Board of Directors, and Managing Director of R&D Center, NTT DOCOMO, INC.
  • Cayetano Lluch Mesquida
    Director of Technology and Services Development, Telefonica Móviles España S.A.
  • Steve Pusey
    Global Chief Technology Officer, Vodafone Group Plc.
  • Kris Rinne
    Senior Vice President – Architecture & Planning, AT&T, Inc.
  • Sha Yuejia
    Vice President for Business Support, Technology and R&D, China Mobile Communications Corp.

 

Outgoing Chairman Hamid Akhavan (CEO, T-Mobile International AG) congratulated the newly appointed Board Directors: “The NGMN Alliance has been established as a key player in the mobile industry in just two years with major achievements in the areas of next generation technology, spectrum, IPR and many others. I’m convinced that the Alliance will continue its track record in the coming years.”

 

At its first meeting, the new Board elected Vivek Badrinath as Chairman and agreed to work on ensuring the successful launch of next generation mobile network technology by focusing on trials and testing, device availability, services and applications.

 

The new Chairman, Vivek Badrinath, expressed his appreciation for the Initial Board’s groundbreaking success and thanked Hamid Akhavan for his excellent leadership: “I am honored to follow Hamid Akhavan's guidance and intend with all our colleagues, to put continued focus on the key needs for an evolutionary, cost-effective migration path from the existing networks to the next generation networks in order to deliver on our promise of mobile broadband to our customers.”
