    RWTH Aachen University, UMIC Research Centre, Aachen, Germany

    UMIC (Ultra High-Speed Mobile Information and Communication) is the sole research cluster funded under the Excellence Initiative of the German Federal and State Governments approved in the domain of mobile information and communication technology. It comprises more than 12 chairs of the computer science and electrical engineering and information technology departments of RWTH Aachen University. The focus of UMIC research is on mobile information and communication systems of the next decade. Key pillars of the cluster research are „Mobile Application and Services“, “Wireless Transport Platforms“ (including networks, mobile infrastructure and terminals), „RF Subsystems and SoC Design“, and interdisciplinary methods and tools.     University of Kassel, ComTec (Chair for Communication Technology), Kassel, Germany

    Together with leading industrial partners, university partners and in the framework of several national and international R&D projects the researchers, PhD candidates, and students of ComTec focus their research activities on: Wireless Internet and Pervasive Computing. The main emphasis is on innovative applications as well as protocol integration of wireless and internet technologies. This includes the following R&D subjects: Context awareness, personalization, service creation, WEB2.0 type of applications, service architectures, multi-standard radio research management, and autonomous communications. The solutions and demonstrators are tested in various application domains such as: m-health, m-working, or automotive.
